Hospice & Palliative Care

Hospice care is intended for patients with a life-threatening condition and a life expectancy of six months and is also for the support of families.

What is Palliative Care?

"Palliative care is a multidisciplinary approach to specialized medical care for people with serious illnesses.  It focuses on providing patients with relief from the symptoms, pain, physical stress, and mental stress of a serious illness - whatever the diagnosis.  The goal of such therapy is to improve quality of life both for the patient and the family.  Palliative care is provided by a team of physicians, nurses, and other health professionals who work together with the primary care physician and referred specialists, or hospice staff, to provide an extra layer of support.  It is appropriate at any age and at any stage in a serious illness .

We at Hospice of Acadiana are confident that we offer far more services and a greater quality of care than any other Hospice in Acadiana.

Why? Our not-for-profit status means that money left over after operating expenses goes back into: 1. Patient Care, and 2. Program Development.  It NEVER goes to investors from out of town or state, or large executive salaries.  All proceeds from patient care stay right here in Acadiana and are invested into the betterment of Acadiana's people.

A Community Service

When Hospice of Acadiana was established in 1983, one of the guiding principles was a pledge to accept all medically eligible patients, regardless of their ability to pay for services. Since that time, we have dedicated ourselves to compassionate care for the dying as a form of community ministry rather than as a business and set quality of care, not financial reward, as the ultimate measure of our success.

The Indigent Patient Fund

To establish and maintain an indigent patient fund—from which the cost of providing care to patients without means can be paid.

Hospice of Acadiana has relied on the generosity of the community, primarily in the form of foundation and corporate grants, United Way grants, memorial gifts, donations, and special events fund-raising.
